About

Puketāpapa Business Voice

In July 2021, Puketāpapa Business Voice was launched and since then volunteers have been coming together to work for the business community, providing them ‘a voice’ to address challenges, develop trust and enhance Puketāpapa as a great place to do business, capitalising on its unique identity.

The group began in December 2018, when Ella Kumar, concerned by the lack of a cohesive representation of businesses in the area, invited businesses to meet for coffee and networking at a local café.
“Puketapapa [Mt Roskill] is an area with lots of businesses, but no single, definable, business district”, said Kumar at the inaugural AGM . “Instead, it has many business centres such as Stoddard Road, Carr Road, and Dominion Road, and several other smaller groups of businesses within the wider area”.

“I was once a business owner”, she says. “I have a heart for businesses and understand the challenges they face. My vision was for business owners to unite to become a stronger voice together”.

In March 2019 Kumar was joined by Kerrie Subritzky, business owner and editor of Beacon Community News, and the pair have been working together as volunteers to promote the group, which has now grown to over 150 members. In June 2021, it all began at The Hub Café on Carr Road, where local business members came together to shape the future of business representation in the area. At this foundational meeting, the group elected its first committee: Chairperson: Ella Kumar; Secretary: Kerrie Subritzky and Treasurer: Priyan Rajapaksa of Right Click Accountants This gathering marked the beginning of Puketāpapa Business Voice — Auckland’s first business association to prioritise sustainability and low carbon outcomes as core principles. The official launch of Puketāpapa Business Voice was celebrated on Saturday 3 July 2021 at the Fickling Centre in Mt Roskill, with Mayor Phil Goff in attendance to formally inaugurate the association. Our Guiding Principles

How do we work?

The association is an incorporated society, with membership open to businesses, business property owners and other agencies operating within the Puketāpapa area. The membership of the association elects a management committee, which runs the day-to-day operations of the association, guided by a long term strategy to advance the commercial interests of business people and businesses in Puketāpapa.

The association is funded through membership fees, grants or contracts from government agencies, and commercial sponsorships
